Youth from both Banting, Como Lake and Summit Middle Schools are eligible to attend the program.
The primary age group served by the program, are youth between the ages of 11 and 14 years old.
Kateslem is a “needs based” registration program. Parents, teachers and counselors can refer a vulnerable youth to the program. Students are also encouraged to sign themselves up for the program, and commit to the year.
There is no registration fee for the program, although each member is required to donate one item of non-perishable food per month, to assist those in need in the Coquitlam community.
Students are required to attend 5 days a week, in order to participate in special events, field trips and paid lessons. If a child attends less than full-time, they are not eligible to be included in these events, as they are costly. Participation in community service, fundraising and special events are an important part of our program.
Attendance is taken each day at the club. It is important that Parents notify Kateslem staff in their child will be absent. This can be done by calling the school and leaving a message for Kateslem staff, or by contacting Karyn at the number on the Contact Page. Students staying in class or attending a school activity are expected to advise program staff where they will be, and when they will return.
